This year’s Relay For Life of Wilson County held overnight May 3-4 in the La Vernia Bears Stadium was a tremendous success, with new records for participation and donations, according to event organizers. A total of 138 cancer survivors participated, along with 56 caregivers. Members of 57 teams walked the track all night to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. As darkness fell, 1,092 luminarias were lit in memory of those who have lost their fight to cancer and those currently battling the disease. As the sun rose May 4, a total of $100,094 had been raised. Donations are still being received.
