1955-2009

“Blessed are the nurses, for they help us heal through love and care.”

A lively and creative spirit entered this world on Dec. 17, 1955, and bravely returned home on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009.

Leesa Elane Davis Crabb of Karnes City, Texas, was taken from her family suddenly, leaving behind memories of a life well-lived and a legacy of inspiration for all whose lives she touched.

She was born in Gladewater and moved to Karnes City in 1960. A member of the 1974 graduating class of Karnes City High School, Leesa proudly played the clarinet in the Badger Band and continued playing her clarinet for Badger Comebacks. Following her passion for music, she often sang for weddings and church events throughout her life.

In 1978, she accepted the call of her life’s purpose when she graduated from the Vocational School of Nursing at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. For the past 28 years, you could always find Leesa faithfully caring for her patients at the Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital in Kenedy. Since 1999, she served as an on-call emergency medical technician for the Karnes County EMS in her free time. She regularly participated in the Relay For Life, and her co-workers relied upon her to lend her unique touch to the hospital Christmas parties every year.

In 1980, she married Robert Douglas of Runge and had two sons, Justin Robert Douglas and James Anthony Douglas. Leesa married John Crabb of Karnes City in 1987, and they had a daughter, Darla Christine Crabb.

Leesa was known for her determination and strength of character and passed this spirit on to her children, relentlessly supporting them in reaching their own goals in life. As a woman of many talents, Leesa enjoyed refinishing furniture, painting, telling jokes, collecting Christian crosses, doing crafts, sewing, Southern cooking, singing gospel music, and playing the tambourine. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Karnes City.

She was preceded in death by her father, Troy A. Davis.

Leesa has left behind many loving friends, two sons, one daughter, and two grandsons.

She is also survived by her mother, Elizabeth Davis of Karnes City; her brothers, Tony A. Davis of New Braunfels and Charles R. Davis of Karnes City; her sister, Joi Davis of San Antonio; her daughter, Darla Christine Crabb of Karnes City; her sons, Justin Robert Douglas and wife Virginia of Corpus Christi and James Anthony Douglas of San Antonio; and her grandsons, Andrick Douglas of San Antonio and Troy Robert Douglas of Corpus Christi. She is also survived by her former spouse and friend, Bobby Douglas of Runge, her former spouse and friend, John Crabb of Karnes City, and her sweetheart and companion in life, Tommy Pfannstiel of Beeville.

Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, in the Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church in Karnes City, with the Rev. J.D. Cummings and the Rev. Ken Houston officiating.

Interment followed in the Karnes City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were John Smart, Shelby Dupnik, Felipe Leal, Danny Denson, Stephen Leal, and B.J. Loya. Honorary pallbearers were the Karnes County emergency personnel.
