1953-2008
Johnny Frank Turner, 55, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Saturday, May 3, 2008.

He was born March 15, 1953, in Hampton, Va. His family moved to San Antonio, Texas, shortly after he was born.

Johnny was diagnosed with mouth cancer as a result of chewing tobacco. His greatest wish was to be a testimony of its effects.

He graduated from Texas Lutheran College, where he was awarded a full athletic scholarship. He was an All-American center in 1974 when the Bulldogs won a national championship. He was also very proud to be the “roadie” for the “Abbey Band of South Texas.” Johnny loved coaching all kids, but treasured coaching his son, Justin, from T-ball to high school.

From 1976-1981, he taught and coached at Page Middle School in San Antonio. Since 1981, he was the credit manager for Grande Ford Truck Center until April 7, 2008. For over 28 years, owners, coworkers, and customers were extended family to him. He was a lifetime member of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, where he served on various committees since 1988. He was also a member of Mesquite Hall.

Johnny was a confirmed member of the Highland Park Lutheran Church until approximately two and a half years ago, when he became a member of the River City Community Missionary Church and where, at a home group, he truly found the Lord as his personal Savior. He had an abundance of friends and family and has been supported by all who loved him. Many thanks to all who took part in his care and special thanks to Vista Care, which did a remarkable job of making him comfortable over the past month. Johnny loved life and friends, and we will celebrate his life and honor his memory with the saying, “To live, love, and laugh, for that is Johnny.”

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Turner; grandparents Louis and Anna Knox and Seigel and Grace Turner; and parents-in-law A.W. and Eula Welch.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 20 years, Treva Turner, who wishes to express that the last 20 years have been the most wonderful years of her life. He is also survived by his son, Justin Turner; daughter Michelle Tieken and husband Gregg; his father, Gene Turner; a brother, Bob Turner; a sister, Lynda Offermann; grandchildren Shelby and Cody Tieken and Yasmine Turner; niece Christy Braun; and nephews Greg and Brandon Turner.

Visitation was held Wednesday, May 7, from 5-9 p.m. in the Mission Park Funeral Chapels South in San Antonio.

Funeral services were held in the funeral home chapel Thursday at 11 a.m.

Interment followed in the Mission Burial Park South in San Antonio.

Pallbearers were David Keck, Robin Doege, Leslie Moore, Gary McCartney, Dennis Quick, and Mike King.
